Well, Pakistan find a way to survive and qualify for the Super Fours. What does that mean? Another India-Pakistan clash, but there is some time for that, on Sunday, 21st September, 2025. Tough luck for UAE. They have played really well not only in this series, but in the tri-series prior to this series as well. Of course, there was a blip against India, but that happens to everyone. They will go off this tournament with their heads held high and lots of learnings. Coming to Thursday, 18th September, 2025, we move to Abu Dhabi. Group A is done in terms of qualification but match 11 presents an interesting case. Afghanistan take on Sri Lanka in Group B. A win will take the Afghans through while a loss will take Bangladesh through! Not officially confirmed, but an excellent run rate puts Sri Lanka unofficially into the next round. That should be a cracker of a contest. The first ball is scheduled to be bowled at 2.30 pm GMT but our buildup will begin well in advance. So do tune in early. In the meanwhile, you can catch all the action from the Zimbabwe-Namibia T20I series. ADIOS! TAKE CARE!
The victorious skipper of Pakistan, SALMAN AGHA, cannot hide his glee. He expresses satisfaction with the victory and advancement to the next round. However, he acknowledges that the team needs to improve its batting performance, crediting the bowlers for their current success in the tournament. Agha praises Shaheen, calling him a match-winner whose all-round skills are crucial to the team's success. He also highlights Abrar's match-winning ability, noting that he can change the course of any game from any situation. When asked about the upcoming match against India, Agha emphasizes that the team is focused on its own performance rather than worrying about others. He confidently states that if Pakistan play to their potential, they can win against any team.
The captain of United Arab Emirates, Muhammad Waseem, is up for a chat now. On being asked about the feeling in the camp at the halfway stage, he credits the bowlers for restricting Pakistan to a low total. Admits that they lost the game because of ordinary batting. Points that they were still there in the chase till the 15th-16th over, but then lost wickets one after the other. Stresses that they need to take the responsibility and bat till the end. Tells that they need to learn and move forward. Highlights that it has been good playing against opponents like India and Pakistan and have learnt a lot as a team from them as well.
Pakistan's SHAHEEN AFRIDI has been adjudged the PLAYER OF THE MATCH, for his all-round show of an unbeaten 29 (14) with the bat and 2/16 in 3 overs with the ball. When asked about his batting, Shaheen credits his hard work in the nets, saying it was satisfying to see his efforts pay off in the match. Shaheen expresses his team's enthusiasm for the upcoming games, stating that they are looking forward to the next matches after this victory. He emphasizes his simple yet effective batting approach, saying he plays every ball on its merit without changing his strategy. Regarding his successful bowling spell, Shaheen explains that he looks to exploit the swing early on and attack the stumps, an approach that has worked well for him so far.
... THE PRESENTATION ...
Earlier in the game. United Arab Emirates chose to field, perhaps because of the dew and bowled really well, keeping Pakistan on the mat. Fakhar Zaman's 50 was the only standout, till the 18th over, post which, Shaheen Afridi came out all guns blazing, just like he did against India and his whirlwind unbeaten 29 (14) helped Pakistan amass 28 runs in the last 2 overs. Junaid Siddique bowled his heart out, picking up 4/18 in 4 overs while Simranjeet Singh kept Pakistan quiet in the middle overs, with 3 wickets. However, the efforts still proved short. Please stay tuned for the presentation.
Full marks to Pakistan with the ball. They lacked self belief against India but in this game, they were full of belief. They came out to the middle believing that they can defend 146 and made that 146 look like 176. Shaheen Afridi set the tone early, removing Alishan Sharafu in his second over, eventually finishing with 2/16 in 3 overs. Barring Mohammad Nawaz, the rest then stepped up, with Abrar Ahmed finishing another meagre spell of 2/13 in 4 overs. Not to forget Haris Rauf, who was missed in that India game, picking up 2 wickets in this one. There was no let up of pressure at all.
UAE got off to a great start with the bat, racing to 35/1 at the end of the 4th over. Clearly, they wanted to maximize the fielding restrictions and the new ball, but once skipper Muhammad Waseem departed, the runs simply stopped flowing. Rahul Chopra and Dhruv Parashar tried to stitch things together and got a 48-run partnership but that came in 51 balls. Eventually, the pressure crept up and after that stand was broken, despite the platform being set, the pitch got too difficult for the new batters to bat quickly. Like Pakistan, United Arab Emirates also had only 4 batters in double digits but no one to bat deep and till the end.
This match had all the essence of a red-carpet event. One team refusing to take part till around an hour before the scheduled start of play, then turning up with the match start being delayed by an hour. Then, that team in the news huffs and puffs to an under-150 score, with a number 9 being the second highest scorer of the innings. At the halfway stage, nearly half the world was calling this an early exit for Pakistan. However, that's why they are Pakistan, isn't it? Just when it seems like they are done for, they somehow turn things around from nowhere.
The United Arab Emirates just cannot find the zip to get past Pakistan. Gave a good fight in the tri-series in 2 matches, improving themselves and in this contest, fought really hard with the ball, giving themselves a great chance of an upset. Unfortunately for them, their batting simply did not support enough. That's the 6th loss on the trot for the Arabs in T20Is, while batting second. The last time they won a match chasing was against Kenya, in July 2025.
17.4RUN OUT! GAME, SET AND MATCH! Pakistan have got the victory they needed to advance to the next round of games as they defeat the United Arab Emirates by 41 runs. On a length around middle and off, Muhammad Rohid slices this to deep point and takes two without any difficulty. The throw from the deep was towards the striker's end and Mohammad Haris just tried a cheeky behind-the-back run-out at his end but the batter was well in and the keeper missed the stumps as well. The ball rolled towards the non-striker's end with Rohid keen on the third but at the other end, his partner, Junaid Siddique, had his back against him and wasn't that keen on the run. Haris Rauf picked the ball and threw it on the bounce towards Haris at the striker's end and he did the rest by breaking the stumps.
Muhammad Rohid is the last batter in, replacing Haider Ali.
17.3OUT! CAUGHT! Another one in the over for Pakistan and Haris Rauf too gets his second of the game. Good length, cramping the batter for any sort of room to play with. Haider Ali swings for all money, but only gets it ballooned towards the fielder at mid-wicket. Sahibzada Farhan settles well underneath it and holds onto it. United Arab Emirates have been brought down to 103 for 9.
17.2Hurls it full and outside off, Haider Ali drives it straight to the right of mid off.
17.1OUT! SIMRANJEET SINGH IS RUN OUT! Just a stump to aim and Sahibzada Farhan hits the bullseye with the batter way short of his ground. The scolding he got from his skipper a few overs back seems to have got the best out of Farhan in the field. A length delivery from Rauf around middle and leg, Simranjeet Singh looks to slog but hits this off the bottom of his bat towards the fielder at mid-wicket and runs for it. Sahibzada Farhan gathers this and hits the stumps at the non-striker's end with the batter much short of his crease. The umpire, just to be doubly sure, sends this upstairs and the result was never in doubt.
Direct hit! This looks close. Sahibzada Farhan was the fielder. Oh dear. Gone by a long margin, is Simranjeet Singh.
United Arab Emirates need another 44 from 18 balls. Pakistan scored 36 in their last 3 overs. Haris Rauf is back on. 2-0-17-1 so far.
16.6FOUR! Finds the fence! The 100 comes up for the UAE! Shaheen hits the shorter length, on top of off. Haider Ali backs away and smashes it over the point fielder for a boundary.
16.5Slower delivery, at 119.5 kph, full and on middle. Simranjeet Singh drills it down to long on for a single.
16.4Bangs it short and just outside off. Simranjeet Singh arches a bit and sways away from the line to leave.
16.3Spears in a low full toss, tailing in a touch from middle, at 141.2 kph. Simranjeet Singh forces it away to the cover fielder.
16.2OUT! CAUGHT BEHIND! Shaheen comes over the wicket and bowls a back-of-a-length delivery going down the leg. Harshit Kaushik looks to get this away towards the fine leg region but fails to get a good connection on it. Ends up gloving this towards the right of the keeper. Mohammad Haris dives to his right and holds onto it inches above the ground. Shaheen Afridi jogs in a celebratory manner towards the keeper but is left stunned as the umpire turns down this. Salman Agha sends this upstairs and there is a spike on the UltraEdge as the ball is next to the gloves of Harshit Kaushik, forcing the on-field umpire to change his decision of not out to out. Simranjeet Singh walks in next.
Caught behind! Is it? Afridi feels so, but the umpire has not given it. Agha has taken the review this time. And yes, UltraEdge detects a spike when the ball is close to the glove!
16.1On a good length, around off, Haider Ali hops in the crease and runs this wide of deep backward point for as single.
After 16 overs, United Arab Emirates are 97/6. At the same stage, Pakistan were 105/6. Shaheen Afridi returns. 2-0-10-1 so far.
15.6Slider, going down the leg, onto the pads of Ali. The batter edges this onto the pads and deflects it to square leg for one.
15.5Flighted around the block hole on off, Haider Ali blocks this out towards mid off.
Haider Ali walks in next, at number 8, replacing Rahul Chopra.
15.4OUT! CAUGHT! That could be the final nail in the coffin. Full, on middle and off, Chopra goes for the big slog sweep but gets it only as far as deep mid-wicket. Simple catch for Hasan Nawaz. End of a struggling run-a-ball 35 for Chopra and from 85/3, United Arab Emirates are now 96/6! Equation - 51 runs, 26 balls.
15.3Tossed up, around middle and leg, Rahul Chopra puts on the dancing shoes, jumps down the track and flicks this towards Hasan Nawaz at deep mid-wicket towards his left for two. Nawaz did well to run a few yards to his left and put in a slide to field this, keeping it down to two.
15.2SIX! How has he managed to hit that? Tossed up, a bit wider outside off, Rahul Chopra came down the track but was far from the pitch of the ball. However, he went through with his reach and somehow swiped it over wide long off for half a dozen!
15.1Comes round the wicket, does the skipper of Pakistan, bowls a fuller one, wide outside off. Rahul Chopra looks to drag this with a sweep towards the leg side but misses out.
The middle overs have been slow going for United Arab Emirates. They managed just 50 runs and lost 2 wickets in these 9 overs. Pakistan were something similar, managing 54/3 in those 9 overs. Harshit Kaushik walks in next, at number 7, replacing Asif Khan. Also, Salman Agha comes onto bowl.
14.6OUT! BOWLED! Abrar ends his spell with a wicket. A carrom ball, around off, Asif Khan goes for a massive mow on the leg side, but misses, as the ball spins in and shatters the stumps. Abrar is pumped up, as he finishes his night with bowling figures of 4-0-13-2. Asif departs for a 4-baller and from 85/3, United Arab Emirates are now 88/5. Equation - 59 runs, 30 balls.
14.5Quicker one, turning away from the batter around off. Asif Khan swings and gets an outside edge that falls just short of a diving short third fielder. Something has got to give now for the UAE.
14.4Fuller around off, Rahul Chopra pushes this through cover for a single.
14.3LEG BYE! Floated full, sliding down the leg. Asif Khan misses out on the flick and clips this off his front pad towards square leg for a leg bye.
14.2Googly on middle and off, Asif Khan hops onto his back foot and tucks this to mid-wicket for a dot.
14.1Way too full on middle and off, Rahul Chopra flicks this all along the carpet through backward square leg for one.
Asif Khan walks in next, at number 6, replacing Dhruv Parashar. Abrar Ahmed to bowl out. 3-0-11-1 so far.
13.6OUT! CAUGHT! Haris Rauf breaks through the 48-run stand. The pressure was telling and it has resulted in the wicket of Dhruv Parashar. On a length, outside off, pace off, Parashar looks to go over the off side but is not to the pitch of the ball. Ends up slicing it and the ball lobs towards deep cover. The ball seems to be dying down but Khushdil Shah charges in from the deep, keeps his eyes on the ball, dives forward and picks it up cleanly with both hands. Parashar departs for 20 (23), an innings where he barely got going. United Arab Emirates are 85/4 and need another 62 from 36 balls.
13.5Thunderbolt around off, on a good length. Rahul Chopra's bat twists in his hands as he rolls this off the inside half of his bat to long on for one.
13.4Back of a length around off, Rahul Chopra shuffles across and looks for the ramp but misses out. Pressure mounting on these two.
13.3Another run-out chance goes begging for Pakistan as Salman Agha misses the stumps at the non-striker's end. Good length, around middle and leg, Rahul Chopra backs away and chips this in front of Salman Agha at mid off and sets off for a single. Agha throws it towards the non-striker's end and misses. The backup wasn't good from the square leg fielder, as the ball was allowed to travel to fine leg for an extra run.
13.3WIDE! Extras are piling up for Pakistan and this is not what they need or want. Spicy bumper, down the leg stump line. Rahul Chopra comes inside the line of it and goes for the hook at this but misses. Wided.
13.2Rauf hits the hard length around middle and off, Rahul Chopra flicks this towards the on side for no run.
13.1Back of a length on middle and leg, Dhruv Parashar hops up on his toes and nudges this through square leg for one.
United Arab Emirates need 67 from 42 balls. Pakistan scored 60 in their last 7 overs. Haris Rauf returns. 1-0-12-0 so far.
12.6Quicker one in the line of the stumps, Dhruv Parashar flicks this off his back foot for one more. Another tidy over for Pakistan.
12.5Tossed up wide of off, Dhruv slices this beyond backward point for two here.
12.4Bowls it a bit fuller, wide of off. Rahul drags this with a sweep towards deep mid-wicket for one.
12.3Quicker and flatter on off, Rahul Chopra tucks this towards the bowler's right for no run
12.2LBW review taken by Pakistan! Seemed to be going down the leg side to the naked eye. It was a full ball, down the leg side, which Dhruv Parashar missed, while attempting the sweep. The ball hit his pads, prompting a loud shout from the keeper and the bowler. The ball deflected towards short fine leg and the batters took the single. Meanwhile, after a bit of a discussion, Salman Agha decided to go for the review. Ball Tracking shows the impact to be outside leg and that kills the story.
12.1On middle, swept through square leg for a single.
After 12 overs, United Arab Emirates are 74/3. At the same stage, Pakistan were 75/3.
11.6Googly, turning into the batter. Rahul Chopra plays for the one going the other way, gets an inside edge back onto the pads. The ball balloons off the pads towards silly point for one. Sahibzada Farhan had a go at the striker's end but missed.
11.5Too full, but down the leg. Rahul Chopra paddles this fine to the right of Abrar Ahmed at fine leg for a couple of runs.
11.4Tossed up around middle and off, Rahul Chopra drives this crisply but straight to extra cover for no run.
11.3FOUR! CLUBBED! The UAE needed that. Tossed up, around off, spinning away, fractionally short, Rahul Chopra backs away to the leg side and hammers it over cover, beating sweeper to his right.
11.2Short and wide outside off, Dhruv Parashar rises up with the bounce and punches this off his back foot towards sweeper cover for one.
11.1Leggie, around middle and off, Dhruv Parashar pushes this back to the bowler.
United Arab Emirates need another 81 from 54 balls. Pakistan scored 76 from their last 9 overs.
10.6LEG BYE! Fired onto the pads, Dhruv Parashar goes for the sweep but misses. Gets it brushed off his thigh pad for a single to short fine leg.
10.5Tossed up around middle and off, Rahul Chopra blocks this in front of point for one.
10.4Appeal for LBW but the umpire turns it down. Wrong 'un around middle and off. Rahul Chopra prods in front and gets an inside edge onto the pads. Abrar Ahmed was keen on sending this upstairs but the skipper, Salman Agha denied and rightly so.
10.3Straight one on off, Dhruv Parashar rolls his wrists and drills this to long on for one.
10.2Fuller, on the pads, Rahul Chopra gets on top of the bounce and flicks this through mid-wicket for a comfortable single.
10.1Quicker one, bang in the line of the stumps. Dhruv Parashar leans over it and drops this gently towards cover for a quick single.
DRINKS BREAK. At the halfway stage, United Arab Emirates are 61/3. At the same stage, Pakistan were 67/2. What this does not tell us is - the difference in the scoring rates. Pakistan were 17/2 after 4 overs and quickened to 50 runs in their next 6 overs. On the other hand, UAE flew off to 35/1 after 4 overs, but have crawled to 26 runs in the last 6 overs. So even though the worm might show both teams as even, it is actually Pakistan who are choking the hosts at the moment. Having said that, the Emirates are adopting the MS Dhoni approach, not going hard after the ball and give room for a collapse. Wickets in hand might just allow you to go big towards the back end, even if might be needing 60 off the last 5.
9.6On middle and leg, Parashar nudges it through square leg for one more.
9.5Full, around off, Chopra gets down and sweeps it behind square leg for another single.
9.4A quicker ball, 88.8 kph, on middle and leg, fuller in length, Dhruv Parashar works it through square leg for one.
9.3Landed on middle, turning away, Rahul Chopra gets outside the line and with deft hand, nudges it through square leg for a run. 89 more needed from 63 balls.
9.2On middle, bunted towards long on for a single.
9.1Around off, pushed towards cover.
United Arab Emirates need another 91 runs from 66 balls. Pakistan scored 85 in their last 66.
8.6Full, outside off, Dhrus goes back and across and works it through square leg for one. 10 from the over, the first double-digit one in this chase, post the 4th over.
8.5Another short ball, outside off, Rahul Chopra works it towards Shaheen Afridi at deep mid-wicket. Guess the dew is heavy, and hence, Afridi fumbles while picking the ball up. But the batters are content with the single.
8.4Short, outside off, Parashar goes back and works it through mid on for a single.
8.3FOUR! 50 UP FOR THE UAE! A boundary after 27 balls! A gift from Nawaz, gleefully accepted by Dhruv! A full toss, from around the stumps. Dhruv Parashar smashes the pull shot to deep square leg for a cracking boundary!
8.2Tossed up, outside off, Chopra pushes it towards long off for a single.
8.1Still no boundary for the UAE. None since Waseem's dismissal. Full, down the leg side, Rahul Chopra gets down and sweeps it fine, past short fine leg to his right. But the outfield is heavy and the ball slows down. Two runs taken. 99 more needed from 71 balls.
After 8 overs, United Arab Emirates are 46/3. At the same stage, Pakistan were 50/2.
7.6Fired in on middle stump, RC goes back and works it through mid-wicket for just a single.
7.5Another dot. Quicker ball, outside off, Rahul finds Agha at cover again, with his push.
7.4Landed around off, Chopra pushes it towards Salman Agha at short cover.
7.3Full, outside off, slightly slower, 80.6 kph, Rahul Chopra does not pick it. The ball lands, grips and then turns away. Probably expecting the off break. Chopra is late in getting the bat down and just opens the face of his bat at the last moment to guide it towards short third.
7.2Landed outside off, Parashar punches it towards long off for a single.
7.1Short, around off, Dhruv Parashar works it through mid-wicket, finds the gap and gets another couple.
United Arab Emirates need another 105 from 78 balls. Pakistan managed 102 in their last 78.
6.6Short, outside off, spins away, 86 kph, Rahul Chopra goes back and works it through mid on for a couple. Tea pots are brewing as that should just have been a single. Actually, long on was running after the ball while deep mid-wicket was coming in. There was a slight miscommunication between the fielders and the batters pounced on the opportunity to take the second.
6.5Full and around off, 85.5 kph, RC defends it towards cover.
6.4Good flighted delivery, slowing it down to 86.8 kph, Rahul comes half forward to defend but the ball lands and then spins past the outside edge.
6.3Full, outside off, Chopra drives it straight to short extra cover.
6.2On middle, Dhruv Parashar walks into the shot and pushes it down to long on for a run.
6.1Full, outside off, Rahul Chopra drives it through the covers for a single.
Just when United Arab Emirates were making some noise, Pakistan have shut that down. 35/1 after 4 overs becomes 38/3 after 6 overs and looking at the comparison at this stage, Pakistan have won it out of nowhere! They were 39/2 at this stage. Mohammad Nawaz returns. 1-0-13-0 so far.
5.6Short, outside off, Dhruv punches it straight to cover. A wicket and a run from the over, 3/2 in the last 2 overs!
5.6WIDE. Down the leg side, spinning down, Parashar misses his flick.
Well, after all that inspection, umpire RUCHIRA PALLIYAGURUGE IS WALKING OFF THE FIELD. He clearly looks dazed, looking down while walking back towards the room. This is clearly not a good sign, as science suggests that if you are not able to look straight while walking, your nerves might have got affected. The reserve umpire, Gazi Sohel, from Bangladesh, comes on as his replacement. We resume.
Concussion test! Not for any player, but the umpire instead! Poor old Ruchira Palliyaguruge. The rivalry between Pakistan and Sri Lanka is well known but can the umpires be spared please? Jokes apart, this was just unaccounted for. It seemed like an uneventful ball. It got played towards mid on who returned the ball to the keeper. Mohammad Haris, then, threw the ball back to the bowler as he got ready to get back to his mark. But when the throw came, umpire Palliyaguruge had his back to the ball and got hit right on the head! In fact, the replay shows that the ball hit him on the left ear as well and it has reddened a lot. The physio has rushed out to the middle.
5.5Another leg spinner, worked towards mid on.
5.4Short, outside off, spinning away, Dhruv Parashar punches it towards cover.
Dhruv Parashar walks in next, at number 5, replacing Muhammad Zohaib.
5.3OUT! OUTFOXED! BOWLED! Saim Ayub might have struggled massively with the bat, but he continues to shine with the ball! Comes from around the stumps, and darts it on a tad fuller length, just outside off. The ball slides in sharply through the air, and cramps Zohaib for space and pace both. Muhammad Zohaib is rushed to go on the back foot and tries to cut it away, but is beaten all ends up as the ball skids through and smashes into the stumps. United Arab Emirates are 37/3 down now as Muhammad Zohaib departs for 4 (9). United Arab Emirates need another 110 runs to win off 87 balls!
5.2DROPPED? The reactions of the Pakistan fielders seem to suggest so. Full, on middle, Muhammad Zohaib looks to drive it straight but hits this a bit aerially back towards the bowler. It dips onto Saim Ayub, who is unable to pick it up cleanly.
5.1Full, around middle and leg, punched towards cover.
United Arab Emirates need 110 from 90 balls. Pakistan scored 115 in their last 90. So Saim Ayub does get the ball. He will bowl the final over of the Powerplay.
4.6Backs away to the leg side, does Zohaib, and gets followed. Short in length, down the leg side, Zohaib works it through mid-wicket for a single to retain the strike. A wicket and just 2 runs to get Abrar going.
4.5Fuller, around middle, Muhammad Zohaib drives it back to the bowler.
4.4A wonderful wrong 'un, outside off, on a length, 77.6 kph, Rahul Chopra plays that very late. Perhaps he did not pick the googly, as his bat come down to defend the ball at the last moment. But the open face got the ball rolling past slip, to his right and a single got taken.
Rahul Chopra walks in next, at number 4, replacing his skipper, Muhammad Waseem.
4.3OUT! GONE! CAUGHT! This could be a game-changing wicket right there for Pakistan! Full marks for a brilliant catch from Mohammad Nawaz. Seeing Waseem moving a bit leg side to go inside out over cover, Abrar smartly bowls it wide outside off, and slows it up, on a fuller length, making Waseem reach for it. The UAE skipper still goes through the shot, but ends up badly mistiming it off the toe end. The ball spoons up towards the point region. Mohammad Nawaz runs backward a bit and flings himself with a dive to grab a fantastic catch. All the Pakistan players are pumped and why not? Muhammad Waseem departs for 14 (15) and the United Arab Emirates are 35/2, needing 112 runs to win!
4.2Around middle and leg, the googly, Waseem flicks it towards short mid-wicket.
4.1Tossed up, outside off, spinning away, Muhammad Waseem looks to cut but misses.
After 4 overs, United Arab Emirates are 35/1. At the same stage, Pakistan were 17/2! That's nearly double the runs and wickets. Abrar Ahmed to bowl his leg spin now.
3.6Tries to tuck him up for space, does Rauf. Bowls a short ball, on the bodyline. Waseem again carves room for himself and punches it wide of mid off for a single. 12 off Rauf's first.
3.5FOUR! That has been PUNISHED! On a back of a length, angling on the off stump line. Waseem again creates room by moving leg side of the ball and belts it over mid off for a cracking boundary!
3.4Slower bouncer, on top of middle and leg. Waseem backs away and slashes it straight to the cover fielder.
3.3Some spice from Rauf. Bends his back and fires in a quicker one back of a length around off. MW thumps this back to the bowler's left. Rauf gathers this in his followthrough.
3.2Back of a length around middle and leg, Muhammad Zohaib flicks this away for a single.
3.2FIVE WIDES! This is not what Pakistan need right now. Good length, wide of off, and it keeps going away from the batter first, then the tramline and beats the keeper diving to his left as well, behind the stumps. The ball races to the fence for a boundary.
3.1Haris Rauf bends his back first up and darts in a short-pitched delivery around the hips of Muhammad Waseem. The batter hops up on his toes and nudges this through square leg for one.
United Arab Emirates need 124 from 102 balls. Pakistan scored 135 in their last 102. Enough of spin, say Pakistan. Haris Rauf is about to be unleashed now.
2.6Another jaffa to end the over! Slams the deck hard, outside off. This one kicks up a bit off the deck and Zohaib is beaten again as the ball passes above his angled bat.
2.5BEAUTY! Tempts the batter to draw the front foot out, does Shaheen. Bowls it just outside off, and gets an away shape from the good length. Muhammad Zohaib does not get to the pitch of the ball and hangs the bat away from the body, and is beaten on the outside edge by a kitten whisker.
2.4A gentle shape away from middle, on a fuller length. Zohaib confidently clips it through mid-wicket for a couple of runs and gets off the mark.
Muhammad Zohaib walks in next, at number 3, replacing Alishan Sharafu.
2.3OUT! BOWLED'EM! It was Shaheen Afridi with the bat to the rescue of Pakistan and it is Shaheen Afridi with the ball now to draw first blood for the Men in Green. Shaheen Afridi goes searching for swing again and bowls a fuller one outside off. Alishan Sharafu backs away a bit and dances down as well, looking to clear the ring of fielders on the off side. Swings away from his body, gets an inside edge and the ball uproots the off pole. Alishan Sharafu departs after scoring 12 (8).
2.2Full and wide outside off, Muhammad Waseem jumps down the track, backing away a bit. Pushes this towards extra cover and takes one.
2.2WIDE! Back of a length, wide down the leg, Muhammad Waseem goes for the pull but misses The umpire calls it a wide despite an appeal for a caught behind from the Pakistan players.
2.1Swing and a miss. Good length, angling away from the batter. Waseem clears his front foot from the pitch of it, plants it pointing towards mid-wicket and swings for the stands but misses out.
Earlier, when it was the UAE, it was all about Muhammad Waseem. But ever since Alishan Sharafu has come into the frame, things have changed. Waseem is naturally aggressive but Sharafu is even more so. He is coming of a quickfire 51 (38) against Oman and to add context, in his previous game against Pakistan, in Sharjah, he clobbered 68 (51). He has to be the main wicket for Pakistan.
1.6Pushed through, full and around off. Alishan Sharafu gets on the front foot and drills it back to Nawaz.
1.5SIX! WOW! An authoritative strike into the stands! Nawaz serves it into the slot, on middle, Alishan Sharafu picks the length nicely, charges down the track and sails it over deep mid-wicket for a massive six. 13 off the over so far!
1.4Full and flat, around off, Waseem backs away to create room and smashes it uppishly, and on the bounce to long off for one.
1.3Floated wide down the leg, Alishan Sharafu gets down on a knee and mistimes the paddle sweep. Gets it away off the scratch towards Abrar Ahmed at short fine leg for a quick single. There is a chance of a run out at the striker's end but Abrar returns a really wide throw to Mohammad Haris, who has to dive to his left to collect, Nawaz is not impressed, asking the youngster to throw at the stumps instead.
1.2Tossed up, around middle and off, Muhammad Waseem gently drops this around point and takes a good single to rotate. This is brilliant from Waseem as a boundary isn't followed by a dot but a strike rotation instead.
1.1FOUR! The spinner has been put under pressure straightaway. Slower one, pitching around off, and turning away from the batter. Muhammad Waseem backs away towards his leg side and cuts this all along the ground past the diving cover-point fielder to his left for four runs.
End of an interesting opening over. Sharafu got things rolling with a boundary, then Afridi bounced back claiming that he has got his man, before things quietened out towards the end. Despite so much action, we just had 6 balls bowled and 6 runs scored! Spin from the other end. It will be Mohammad Nawaz. No Saim Ayub. Could it be because of the success Simranjeet Singh had?
0.6A low full toss, on the stumps, whipped off the inner half of the bat to deep square leg for a single. 6 off the first over. United Arab Emirates need 141 to win off 114 balls.
0.5What a gem of a delivery! How has that missed the sticks? This one tails into the batter, on a good length, on middle. Muhammad Waseem plays for the initial line, trying to defend off the front foot, a bit tentatively though. Gets beaten on the inside edge and the ball passes scarily over the middle stump.
0.4Spotting Sharafu advancing down the track, Shaheen bowls it wide on off, full in length. Alishan Sharafu adjusts to it well and pushes it to mid off for a quick single.
0.3Is that caught behind? Or LBW? Pakistan skipper, Salman Agha, opts against the wish of Shaheen Afridi to send this upstairs. Good length, shaping back into the batter and bounces a wee bit extra. Alishan Sharafu gets beaten on the inside and the ball deflects off his front pad back to Mohammad Haris behind the stumps. Shaheen Afridi doesn't even appeal and jogs to the keeper, anticipating a raised finger from the umpire but he keeps it down. Height would have been a factor for sure.
0.2A lot better from Shaheen Afridi as he attacks the stumps this time, a tad short again and on off. Alishan Sharafu pushes this off the inside half of his bat towards cover for a dot.
0.1FOUR! We are underway in the chase with a crisp boundary from the bat of Alishan Sharafu. Back of a length around off, searching swing but drops this a tad short. Alishan Sharafu rises up with the bounce and punches this through the gap between point and cover point for four runs.
