Right then, that wraps up an entertaining Day 2 of the 2nd Test. India remain firmly in control and will be looking to push for a follow-on, but the West Indies have shown plenty of fight and will aim to build on it as we head into the ‘Moving Day.’ Play on Day 3 is scheduled to start at 9.30 am IST (4 am GMT), though you can join us earlier for all the pre-play build-up. Cheers!

Yashasvi Jaiswal, one of the centurions for India, is up for a quick chat, speaking calmly after his magnificent 175-run knock. Starting off, he expresses his gratitude and says that he always looks to play as long as possible, mentioning that once he is set at the crease, he just wants to keep going and make it count for the team. Speaking on that unfortunate run-out, he notes that it’s just part of the game and accepts it with a smile, saying that such things happen and there’s no reason to dwell on it for long. Talking about his form and mindset, he adds that there’s always a thought about what he can achieve, both personally and for the team, and he tries to keep his focus aligned with those goals. Reflecting on how he built his innings, he mentions that the first hour was all about settling in and assessing the movement. Adds that once he got his eye in, he looked to cash in and make it a big one. Further notes that the wicket still looks good, encouraging India to capitalise from here. Before signing off, he humbly acknowledges Sunil Gavaskar’s praises of making big grand-daddy hundreds.

As the saying goes, learning from mistakes is key, and the visitors showed exactly that with the bat. Alick Athanaze and Tagenarine Chanderpaul tackled India’s spin attack with composure, gradually finding control and, after a quiet start to the final session, shifting gears effectively. They put on 66 runs for the second wicket - the first partnership of 50-plus in this series. However, once Chanderpaul was trapped by Ravindra Jadeja, Athanaze couldn’t capitalise either, falling for 41 and undoing much of their hard work. Jadeja picked up his third wicket, while Kuldeep Yadav also struck, leaving the Windies reeling from 87/1 to 107/4. Shai Hope had his struggles but showcased some elegant strokes, staying unbeaten on 31, and alongside Tevin Imlach, they managed to navigate the remaining overs without further damage.

When the West Indies came out to bat, they looked like a much-improved unit compared to the first Test. The openers displayed commendable patience, doing well to negotiate the new-ball spells from Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj. However, John Campbell’s unfortunate dismissal just before Tea pushed them back once again. With the surface beginning to aid the spinners, the task ahead for the Windies batters seemed increasingly challenging.

India didn’t have the ideal start to Day 2, with a major mix-up between Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shubman Gill resulting in the former’s run-out on 175 - agonizingly short of a double century. But that proved to be the only setback for the hosts on an otherwise dominant day. Gill took charge from there, producing yet another batting masterclass to bring up a magnificent hundred, continuing his stellar run in Tests through 2025. Handy contributions from Nitish Kumar Reddy and Dhruv Jurel took India past the 500-mark before they declared at 518/5. For the West Indies, Jomel Warrican was once again the standout bowler with three wickets, while Roston Chase added one to his tally.

SESSION SUMMARY - 114 runs and 3 wickets in 32 overs! Although the West Indies remain behind on the scoreboard, trailing by 378 runs, they’ve finally offered India some resistance with the bat in the series. They might still be bowled out around 200-250, but there are positives to build on - exactly what Test cricket is about, applying yourself under pressure. India, on a good batting surface, will still be pleased and will look to assert further control with early wickets on ‘Moving Day’.

Back for the final and third session of Day 2! Both umpires have made their way out to the middle, followed by the Indian players, who get into a huddle, where the skipper, Shubman Gill, gives a pep talk, and now, they disperse. Also, the two unbeaten batters of the Windies have stridden out, where Tagenarine Chanderpaul will resume the innings alongside Alick Athanaze. India are starting with Washington Sundar. With one slip and a short leg in place, Sundar to Athanaze. Here we go...

... DAY 2, SESSION 3 ...

For the West Indies, Roston Chase was the only wicket-taker in this session before they were tasked with surviving a tricky hour under the scorching Delhi sun. The openers looked uncertain early on but managed to weather the initial burst of Bumrah and Siraj and seemed to be settling in, only for John Campbell to fall in unfortunate fashion - a sharp reflex catch from Sai Sudharsan at short leg, handing Ravindra Jadeja the breakthrough. Kuldeep Yadav bowled the final over and extracted some sharp turn, a sign of the challenge awaiting the batters. The visitors now need a solid partnership, while India will be eager to make deeper inroads in the final session. Join us at 2.30 pm IST (9 am GMT) for all the action in the last session!

The hosts resumed after Lunch with plenty of intent, led by Shubman Gill’s fluent strokeplay and solid support from Dhruv Jurel. The Indian captain carried on in sublime fashion, extending his stellar run in 2025 with his 10th Test century - his 5th and first at home as a skipper. Runs came effortlessly from his bat as he finished unbeaten on 129, and once Jurel departed for 44, India decided it was time to unleash their bowlers.

SESSION SUMMARY - 117 runs and 2 wickets in 29.2 overs! India have tightened their hold on this contest, riding on that mammoth batting display. They declared at 518/5 and managed to strike once in this session, albeit with a bit of fortune. The surface has started to assist the spinners, with some deliveries turning sharply and others keeping low, making life even tougher for the West Indies batters.

10.6Nicely bowled! Slower through the air, full and outside off, spinning away. Alick Athanaze lunges to defend it, but gets an inside edge that goes through his legs and rolls away towards backward square leg. A single taken. And that will be TEA ON DAY 2!

10.5Pulls his length back, does Kuldeep, and bowls it around off, Alick presses back and nudges it to mid-wicket.

10.4Tossed up, full and around off, Alick prods forward and defends it towards cover.

10.3On the shorter side again, around off, punched down to mid off from the back foot by AA.

10.2Dragged length and outside off, grips and turns away sharply, Alick Athanaze goes back and looks to defend it but gets beaten on the outside edge.

10.1Begins with a short ball, outside off, Tagenarine Chanderpaul presses back and cuts it to deep point for a single.

Just a couple of minutes to Tea and Kuldeep Yadav comes into the attack now.

9.6Tossed up, full and outside off, Alick gets a big stride forward and smothers the spin.

9.5A bit shorter and outside off, Alick gets across on his back foot and manages to defend it.

9.4On the rough, full and outside off, Alick lunges and keeps it out.

9.3Pulls his length back, does Jadeja, and bowls it around off, Alick presses back and defends it.

9.2Quicker, full and around off, Athanaze prods forward and blocks it out.

9.1Flatter, full and around off, Alick lunges and defends it back to the bowler.

9.1Full and around off, defended back to the bowler off the front foot. Uh-oh! Ravindra Jadeja has overstepped and it is called a NO BALL!

8.6Short of a good length and around off, Chanderpaul gets back and tries to defend it but gets it off the upper half of the bat.

8.5Back of a length and around middle, Alick lifts his front leg and pulls it to deep backward square leg for a single.

8.4Angling in, on a length and around middle, Alick goes deep in his crease and wrists it to square leg.

8.3On a good length and around off, Alick gets across deep in his crease and dabs it down towards cover.

8.2A bouncer, angling into the body of the batter, around middle, Alick ducks under it.

8.1Hard length and outside off, Tagenarine Chanderpaul rises with the bounce and at first, he wants to leave but gets a bit late in withdrawing his bat. The ball catches the bottom edge of the bat and rolls down towards gully for a single.

7.3Short and outside off, Alick Athanaze lunges and tries to defend it but gets an inside edge onto his front pad.

Alick Athanaze walks out to bat at number 3. Also, Sai Sudharsan is getting some medical attention out of the field as he has hurt his fingers while grabbing that catch. Devdutt Padikkal is the substitute fielder.

7.2OUT! CAUGHT! Oh, what happened? An excellent catch, to say, the ball has caught Sai Sudharsan, and John Campbell departs for 10 (25). Full and around off, John sits down and tries to sweep it. He has absolutely smashed his shot, and the ball goes towards short leg. Sai Sudharsan, stationed there, tries to sway away and wants to save himself from the shot, but the ball catches him off guard. He closes his eyes but keeps his hands in front, where the ball hits the grill of the helmet and gets stuck in his hands. He doesn't let it out as he closes the grip near his chest, even after he loses his balance for a bit. Everyone is stunned on the ground, and John doesn't want to leave, but he has to walk back, and the Indians are full of smiles there. Jadeja strikes on his second delivery and Sai looks a bit hurt there, as he needs medical attention.

What has happened there? Looks like John Campbell has smashed a sweep straight to short leg. Somehow, Sai Sudharsan has managed to hold onto it near his chest. A very unlucky way to go for Campbell.

India have introduced spin early here. This will be a tricky phase for the Windies batter before Tea.

7.1FOUR! Nicely played! Full and around off, John Campbell gets down and sweeps it fine. Gets it past the keeper to his right for a boundary.

6.6FOUR! PUNISHED! Bumrah drifts it on the pads, on the fuller length and around leg. Tagenarine Chanderpaul leans onto the delivery and flicks it through the gap between mid-wicket and mid on for a boundary.

6.5Back of a length and outside off, shaping away a bit, Tagenarine Chanderpaul hangs his bat close to the body and plays inside the line to let it go.

6.4A yorker now, around off, John digs it out to the right of cover for a single.

6.3This one also comes back in with the around-the-wicket angle, on a length and around leg, John prods forward and tucks it to mid-wicket.

6.2Bashes the deck hard, short of a length and around middle, Tagenarine Chanderpaul swivels and pulls it down to the right of deep fine leg for a single.

6.1On a length, angling in, around off, Chanderpaul gets behind the line and defends it right under his eyes.

5.6Nagging length and around off, angling in, dabbed down to backward point off the front foot.

5.5A searing yorker, shaping back in, around middle, Chanderpaul manages to bring his bat down and jam it to the left of mid-wicket for a single. Siraj has his hands on his head and passes a sheepish smile.

5.4Tailing back in, on a length and around middle and leg, Campbell gets across on his front foot and nudges it to deep backward square leg for one.

5.3Hard length and outside off, angling away, John gets across on his front foot and shoulders his arms.

5.2On a good length and outside off, threatens to come in with that around-the-wicket angle but then shapes away after pitching. John Campbell covers his off stump and shoulders his arms.

5.1Lands it full and well outside off, John Campbell doesn't offer any shot.

4.6On a length, nips back in, around middle, Chanderpaul defends it off his back foot into the deck.

4.5Angling in, on a hard length and around off, Tagenarine Chanderpaul gets behind the line and pushes it down to mid on.

4.4Relatively full and outside off, tapped down to extra cover off the back foot.

4.3BEATEN! Bumrah angles it from wide of the crease and pitches it up, full and just outside off. Tagenarine Chanderpaul keeps his bat inside the line and close to his body to defend it but the ball moves away at the last moment and zips past the outside edge of the bat.

4.2Another hitting the deck hard delivery, around off, Chanderpaul gets across deep in his crease and drops it down to cover point.

4.1Back of a length, angling in, around off, Tagenarine rides the bounce and pats it down back to the bowler.

3.6Massive appeal for caught behind but the umpire turns it down! Full and angling away, outside off, John Campbell throws his hands at it and looks to push at it but gets beaten on the outside edge. India don't opt for a review.

3.5FOUR! NICELY PLAYED! Siraj bowls a fuller delivery, outside off, John Campbell leans onto the delivery and drives it. Gets it past the mid off fielder to his right for a boundary.

3.4Probing length, full and outside off, John gets across on his front foot and lets it go.

3.3Switches to around the wicket, on a length and around off, John Campbell prods forward and defends it to the right of the bowler.

3.2Again, a fuller delivery, angling away from the batter, outside off, John Campbell gets across and shoulders his arms.

3.1Lands it full and outside off, John Campbell hangs his bat away from his body and his feet don't go anywhere. Gets an underedge that bounces in front of the keeper behind the wickets.

2.6Could have chopped on! Hard length and touch close to the off stump, Tagenarine Chanderpaul shifts his weight on the back foot and looks to cut it but gets an underedge that bounces just beside the off stump and rolls away.

2.5EDGED AND FOUR! Bumrah pitches it up again, relatively fuller and around off, moving away from the batter. Tagenarine Chanderpaul gets squared up as he fails to read the swing and gets an outside edge that beats the diving gully fielder to his right for a boundary.

2.4A stifled appeal for LBW, but the umpire shakes his head! Full and nips back in, around leg, Tagenarine Chanderpaul tries to flick it, but his feet go nowhere. Misses and gets beaten on the inside edge before getting rapped low on the front pad. Probably, it could be going down leg.

2.3Back of a length and a bit outside off, Tagenarine Chanderpaul goes deep in his crease and dabs it down to cover point.

2.2Angling in, on a hard length and over off, Tagenarine Chanderpaul gets a bit squared up as he tries to defend it. Gets it off the outer half of the bat and the ball dribbles away to gully.

2.1From around the wicket, on a length that threatens to come in but then shapes away, outside off, Tagenarine Chanderpaul gets across deep in his crease and hangs his bat inside the line to let it go.

1.6Hard length and outside off, John gets on top of the bounce and taps it down to backward point.

1.5Good stop! Full but sliding down the leg side, John Campbell goes deep in his crease and leaves it. The keeper, Dhruv Jurel, gets across to his right, puts in a full-stretched dive and extends his right hand to make a good stop, certainly saving four runs.

1.4Siraj goes a bit fuller, and the line is pretty wide outside off. The ball further seams away from the batter. John Campbell lets it go.

1.3Moving away, on a good length and well outside off, John leaves it.

1.2In-between length but the line is around leg, Tagenarine tucks it to the left of mid on and sneaks a quick single to get off the mark.

1.1From over the wicket, on a length that goes away with that angle, outside off, Tagenarine Chanderpaul gets across deep in his crease and shoulders his arms.

Who bowls from the other end? It will be Mohammed Siraj. Also, a leg slip in place.

0.6Nagging length and around off, John covers his off stump and dabs it down into the deck. Bumrah starts with a MAIDEN!

0.5Pitched up, full and around leg, John brings his bat down in time and tucks it to mid-wicket.

0.4This one moves away, wide outside off, on a length. With excellent seam position, the ball further shapes away, and John lets it go to the keeper, who has to get across to his left to grab it.

0.3On a hard length but sliding down the leg side, John Campbell prods forward and tries to flick it but misses.

0.2On a good length, from over the wicket, angling away, outside off, John lets it go. The ball swings back in after crossing the stumps, and the keeper, Dhruv Jurel, has to put in a dive to his right to gather it.

0.1Bumrah is on the money right away! Starts off with a length delivery that angles away from the batter, outside off. John Campbell gets across and watches it carefully before shouldering his arms.
