Former India batsman Virender Sehwag finds himself embroiled in a major controversy for his distasteful remarks on live television. Currently, the former crickete works as a commentator in the Indian Premier League. He is part of the tournament's Haryanvi commentary panel and made the remarks midway during an IPL encounter. Sehwag made fun of the Jaat community's intelligence while interacting with his fellow commentators.
The former opening batsman referred to the Jaat people of various states as "paidal", implying lack of intelligence among the community and stated claimed that despite coming from different states (Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Haryana) they are all same in terms of IQ. "The Jaats of Uttar Pradesh speak a different language, the Jaats of Rajasthan speak another, and the Jaats of Haryana have their own dialect too… but when it comes to intelligence, all are slow," Sehwag said on air.

Even though Sehwag may have made the comments in jest, many failed to find it amusing. Social media flooded with criticism as Sehwag was slammed for his poor choice of words, labeling it as disrespectful and offensive.
A number of users also requested an apology from the former cricketer, who himself is a Jaat.

Sehwag is among the most accomplished batsmen in India. For over ten years, he continued to be a vital member of the squad in all formats. The Indian squad that won the 2011 ODI World Cup and the 2007 T20 World Cup had Sehwag as a prominent player.
Sehwag also played some superb knocks in the IPL, representing two franchises (Delhi Daredevils and Punjab Kings) in his 104-match career in the cash-rich league.
Meanwhile, Sehwag after retiring from all forms of cricket in 2015 also served as mentor of Punjab Kings before ending his association with the franchise in 2018.
