Revenue Secretary Shaktikanta Das on Tuesday said effective 1 January, permanent account number (PAN) is mandatory for cash payments to clear hotel bills or buying foreign travel ticket of over Rs 50,000.
PAN will also be mandatory for purchase of immovable property, such as houses, of more than Rs 10 lakh, he said adding that the detail will also be compulsory for opening all bank accounts except those under the Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana.
