French drugmaker Sanofi Pasteur will launch the world's first vaccine for dengue in Mexico early next year. With this move, Mexico became the first country in the world to approve the sale of Dengvaxia.
This comes after 20 years of research Sanofi went through as to develop the vaccine. Speaking to CNBC-TV18, Dr Anh Wartel, Senior Director, Clinical Development, R&D at Sanofi, says the company will ensure high quality ramp-up in production of dengue vaccine.
Sanofi is committed to delivering the vaccine to India and is in contact with local authorities in the country for providing the drug, she adds.
Dengue vaccine trials were undertaken on Indians across 5 cities, Wartel says, adding, the company has generated all the data required for Indian population. Sanofi has approached regulators and is waiting for some pending approvals to clear.
Meanwhile, on the pricing front, she said it is too early to comment.
