There are over 10 lakh sugar cane-farming families that deliver to the mills in the predominant "sugar belt", Muzaffarnagar or the sugar capital of Uttar Pradesh. This region is going to polls in the first two phases of the assembly elections. However, sugar cane has hardly found any mention in the campaigns this time around. CNBC-TV18 travelled to Muzaffarnagar which goes to vote tomorrow to find out if the recent cane price hike has meant anything in this election.
