Upset by the proposed Goods and Services Tax (GST) rate of as high as 40 percent on aerated drinks, CNBC-TV18 learns that the Indian Beverage Association (IBA) is preparing to make presentations to the Arvind Subramanian committee and the finance ministry.
Following the proposal, most of the soft drink makers are vexed and IBA, with its 25 members, will make a presentation to the Chief Economic Adviser (CEA) panel next week.
IBA is backed by companies like Coca Cola and PepsiCo.
In this meeting, key concerns surrounding demand and price increase are likely to be discussed.
Furthermore, IBA believes the proposed GST rate for aerated drinks will make this sector unviable.
In addition, Coca Cola has threatened to shut some plants if rate goes through.
