In a landmark move the CBDT has accepted the Bombay High Court’s suggestion to review all pending appeals before High Courts. This comes after the Bombay High Court observed that of the more than 4784 appeals filed from the orders of the ITAT in the Court during 01.01.2014 – 01.06.2014, appeals filed by Revenue were 3968! Thereafter a Collegium of Chief Commissioners Of Income Tax was constituted in November 2014 to approve filing appeals before High Courts. This Collegium will now also consider withdrawal of appeals from High Courts where the same are no longer considered prosecutable.
The CBDT order is attached here.
