11:05 am: Oscar 2017 started with a bang and ended with shock, sorry and surprise. Twitteratis are having their share of fun with tweets coming through about the screw-up.

11:00 am: Host Jimmy Kimmel apologises for the wrong announcement and tries to take some responsibility away from Beatty.

10:55 am: The Moonlight team is shocked to know that they have won the Oscars for best picture. Director Barry Jenkins says, "Very clearly even in my dreams this couldn’t be true, but to hell with dreams – this is true."

10:52 am: The Oscar count for La La Land is 6- best actress (Emma Stone), cinematography, direction (Damien Chazelle), score, song (City of Stars), production Design

10:50 am: "I opened the envelope and it said Emma Stone, La La Land - that’s why I took such a long look at you and Faye [Dunaway] I wasn’t trying to be funny," explains Beatty.

10:45 am: Actually, there is a surprise. Winner for best picture is Moonlight. A wrong envelope in the hands of Warren Beatty led to the confusion.

10:42 am: No surprises here... La La Land wins Oscar for best picture.

10:40 am: Stone didn't forget to thank her co-star Ryan Gosling. "Ryan Gosling, thank you for making me laugh and always raising the bar and being the best partner on this crazy adventure."

10:38 am: She also thanked her fellow nominees and said, "It has been the greatest honour to stand alongside you."

10:35 am: Emma Stone thanked everyone that worked on the movie. "I’m going to find you all individually and I’m going to thank you."

10:30 am: Emma Stone wins Oscar for best Actor (female) for La La Land.

10:25 am: "It means so much to me thank you. One of the first people who taught me how to act was Denzel Washington and I just met him for the first time tonight," said Affleck while receiving the award.

10:20 am: And the Oscar for best Actor goes to...Casey Affleck for Manchester by the Sea.

10:15 am: La La Land wins its fifth in way of best Director award for Damien Chazelle. Chazelle directed the film based on his own original screenplay/ La La Land is nominated for all the next three awards to follow. Let's see what happens...

10:10 am: The big four honours, namely best Actor, best Actress, best Director and best Picture, are next.

10:05 am: Moonlight takes the award for best Adapted Screenplay. Barry Jenkins's screenplay is based on the semi-autobiographical play written by Tarell Alvin McCraney called In Moonlight Black Boys Look Blue.

10:00 am: Best Original Screenplay goes to Kenneth Lonergan for Manchester by the Sea. This is the first win for the film.

9:50 am: The people can't stop humming City of Stars, and neither can the Academy Award Jury, La La Land wins best Original Song, its fourth of the day for the song City of Stars.

9:45 am: Justin Hurwitz wins best Original Score for La La Land. This is the third award for the film. Takes over as the film with the most awards for the ceremony.

9: 40 am: This one is a no brainer, La La Land wins for Best Cinematography. This is the second award for the film. Linus Sandgren, the cinematographer of the film, came to accept the award.

Hacksaw Ridge, in a big surprise, has taken the most awards in the ceremony so far, two.

With just four awards under its belt, La La Land fans can see their hopes coming up as the award for Best Picture approaches. The film has won an award for best Production Design, Original Score and Cinematography among others.

Earlier in the day, Mahershala Ali, becoming the first Muslim actor to win an Oscar, won the award for best supporting actor for his role in Moonlight. He beat the likes of Dev Patel for Lion and Lucas Hedges for Manchester by the Sea.

Viola Davis, won for best Supporting Actress Female, for her role in the film Fences.

Jared Leto starrer Suicide Squad won an award for best Make-up and hairstyling. Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, written by JK Rowling, won for best Costume design.

While Hacksaw Ridge won for Sound Mixing, Arrival won the top honour for Sound Editing. Hacksaw also won for best Film Editing.

Disney's Zootopia, a critics favorite, won the award for best animated feature. The short that preceded the film Finding Dory, Piper, won for best Animated Short.

Best Foreign Language Film award went to the Iranian film The Salesman.
