Govt plans to raise tax effect limits for litigation

Revenue secretary Hasmukh Adhia said that from a retrospective date, the government will withdraw appeals filed by it from the ITAT, as well as the high courts, where the tax effect is Rs 10 lakh and Rs 20 lakh, respectively

The government on Tuesday decided to raise the tax effect limits for litigation, where the government itself is in appeal against the taxpayer.

Revenue secretary Hasmukh Adhia said that from a retrospective date, the government will withdraw appeals filed by it from the ITAT, as well as the high courts, where the tax effect is Rs 10 lakh and Rs 20 lakh, respectively.

The earlier limit for a government appeal at the ITAT level was Rs 4 lakh, whereas for high courts it was Rs 10 lakh.
